Travel planning in a skoolie is nothing like planning a road trip in a car. I learned that pretty quickly. You can’t just punch an address into Google Maps and go. You’ve got height restrictions, weight limits, fuel stops that need to actually fit your vehicle, and a whole list of roads that will either … Read more
When I first heard the word “boondocking” I thought it was something people made up. It sounded like a joke. But the more I dug into bus life, the more I realized that boondocking — camping off-grid on public land for free — is basically the backbone of the whole skoolie lifestyle for a lot … Read more
Once you’re parked somewhere in a 35-foot school bus, you realize pretty quickly that you need a way to get around town without firing up the big rig every time you need milk. Towing a smaller vehicle behind your skoolie is how most full-timers solve that problem, but the method you choose matters a lot … Read more
If there’s one question I saw more than any other when I started digging into bus life, it was some version of “where do you actually park this thing?” Not at a campground for $50 a night — people wanted to know how to do it cheap. Or free. And honestly, once I started looking … Read more
When I first started figuring out the whole full-time travel thing, I assumed I’d just use Google Maps and wing it. You’ve got your bus. Maybe you’ve even finished the conversion. But now you’re staring at this 35-foot yellow (or freshly painted) vehicle in your driveway and thinking: where on earth do I actually put this thing? You’re not alone — parking is the single most common worry people have about bus life, and for good … Read more
You’ve got the bus built and you’re ready to go full-time. But the question that keeps people up at night is, where do you actually put this thing? You can’t just park a 35-foot bus on any random street and call it home. Most full-time skoolie owners park at RV parks ($400-$800/month), on private land … Read more
So this was something I worried about way more than I probably needed to. I had this image in my head of pulling up to an RV park in a converted school bus and the manager coming out to tell me to leave. And yeah, that can happen, but it’s way less common than the … Read more
